Within the exploration stage i went through a number of different design ideas for my character Jonathyn. I tried out different species for the main character to be and may come up with a character customisation section in my game where the species of your character can be changed at the start of the game similar to Skyrim. I also went through a number of main weapon designs such as a sword or a sickle and even a flintlock pistol. I also tried a design of a dungeon underneath a house however eventually decided against it and designed a castle dungeon.
Within the approval stage I then chose to have my character as a human for now but possibly have a character customisation feature in my future game. My character has slip back hair with shaven sides and a beard. He has a scar across his right eye and a tattoo of a cross on his chest. His clthing consists of a waistcoat with ripped sleeves, a fabric belt and hand wraps along with baggy pirate pants and boots. The characters main weapon of choice is a sickle and flintlock pistol however also carries a sword attached to his belt. Jonathyn has a pack of regualr cards for gambling which will be part of a mini game.
My research went well as I felt inspired to make my charcter look generic but at the same time unique so that he can clearly be seen as a pirate however looks different to other game characters.
The setting I created was quite basic and could of possible have been improved as most of my time and effort went into creating and designing a character.
The weapons in my game are basic but will be very linear and pobably not have a customisable weapon choice for the time being.

Character
Jonathyn will have pirate qualities in his clothing and appearance. For this reason I looked at designs in the Assassains creed game; black flag. These characters were good for inspiration for my own character.
I also looked at the design of the main protagonist in the Witcher franchise. More specifically Geralt of Rivia in Witcher 3. This inspired me to possibly give my cahracter long hair and a beard but most definitely some facial scarring. I also will take inspiration from the charcaters armour.
I then focused on the scar on the eye choice and looked at some images of real and fake scars on running across peoples eye.
This then give me the idea of a bruise on the eye of the character to show his mistreatment and punishment in the dungeon. This will also compliment the scar on his eye.
I also looked at some medeivil clothing that my main character could wear. This includes robes, fur and a hood.

HA2 Task 1 - The Purpose of Concept Art
The three stages for creating concept art is:
Exploration
Here are a few examples of concept art in the exploration stage. This stage is to brainstorm ideas for the design of a character so drawings remain as rough sketches in this stage.
Approval
Here are some examples of approval concept art. This stage is to tweak and change any miner details and create afull design of the character in a larger amount of detail.
Promotion
Promotion is when a deign is finalised and can be distrubuted into the media to promote the game and receive feedback on the finished design. This stage includes more colour and sometimes a background or action shot of the character.
